Alessandro Sorniotti - IBM Research

Blockchain and Hyperledger Fabric

Wednesday July 18, 2018 - 9.30-10.30

With more than 200 members, Hyperledger is one the most active open-source communities devoted to building decentralized ledger technologies. Hyperledger Fabric is a platform for distributed ledger solutions, underpinned by a modular architecture delivering high degrees of confidentiality, resiliency, flexibility and scalability. It is designed to support pluggable implementations of different components, and accommodate the complexity and intricacies that exist across the blockchain ecosystem. In this talk we will focus on the Hyperledger Fabric design, architecture and security properties.

Alessandro is a research staff member in the blockchain group of IBM Research. Prior to joining IBM, he was a member of the Security&Trust research programme of SAP Research. He has been engaged in several EU projects including TREDISEC and TClouds (focussing on security and reliability in cloud computing). His current research interests revolve around the study of security and privacy aspects of distributed systems (with special emphasis on blockchain). He is a core contributor to hyperledger fabric. Alessandro holds a PhD in applied cryptography from Telecom ParisTech (former Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, Paris) and a double MSc degree from Politecnico di Torino (Turin, Italy) in Computer Science and from EURECOM in Networking.
